Sleeping pills are a miracle solution?
In Vietnam, a quite common and worrying reality is that when people have insomnia, they can easily buy sleeping pills at pharmacies.
Amanda FitzSimons, a contributing writer for ELLE in the UK, who started taking sleeping pills in college, shared: `The reason I turned to sleeping pills is simply because a small pill can help me sleep well.`
In the US, there are also millions of people using the sedative Ambien or similar drugs whose main ingredient is zolpidem, making it the most popular drug.
However, not everyone knows whether they have short-term or chronic insomnia because when they have taken medicine for too long and continuously for a long time, they are like a person who has dyed their hair for so long that they no longer remember.
When the effect does not stop in the evening
Recently, the press has warned about the side effects of the drug Ambien.
Based on that, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has recommended that the dose of Ambien for women needs to be cut in half.
However, according to Sanofi, the manufacturer of Ambien, the number of people suffering from the above side effects is only about 8%, the rest can find a peaceful sleep all night just a few minutes after taking the drug.
In 1992, when the FDA allowed it to circulate on the market, Ambien naturally became a miracle drug for many people suffering from insomnia.
However, the huge downside of this drug is that it can cause addiction.
In 1996, in the New York Times, a doctor also confirmed that Ambien has no physical harm and does not cause side effects to the body.
Being `drug dependent` as above is also a sign of drug addiction, although the meanings of these two conditions are not completely the same.
Therefore, Sanofi still advises doctors to think carefully before prescribing drugs for people with a history of drug addiction.
“Sleep is an act of both body and mind,” said Dr. Carl Bazil, MD at Columbia University Medical Center.
Affects health and life
Chronic lack of sleep is linked to many diseases such as depression, diabetes, obesity, high blood pressure and a weakened immune system.
In a study just published at BMJ Open, the death rate of people who took these sleeping pills (18 doses in a year) was 3 times higher than those who did not use them and 5 times higher if you took 132
Theories formed from investigating the increase in deaths show that: In some animal studies, overdose of sleeping pills and especially when the drug is used with alcoholic beverages leads to
Most dangerous of all, the majority of people who use sleeping pills are people who already have diseases.
For Amanda herself, Ambien was the first sleeping pill she used.
